Another glorious morning with hardly a cloud in the sky. We decided to take the free chair lift up to the Penken mountain and get off the chair lift half way up and hike to the top station then to continue further. The views were just exceptional.
Notice the cloud in the top right-hand corner of the photo? Within minutes of taking this photo, we were on the top of this mountain in the middle of a full-scale fierce thunderstorm. Lightning and thunder crashing over-head. And we were still out in the open with at least 150 metres to get to shelter at the top station of the chair lift. We ran as fast as we could those last 150m and Thank God got there safely, though completely drenched. The chair lift was shut down until the storm passed and we sheltered for about 30 minutes with about 20 other people until all was safe. We were wet and cold so decided to give the hike a miss for the day and headed back down and home. That night we heard a report on the news about these storms that were hitting hard and fast in countries throughout Europe. We knew first hand what they were taking about!!!
