"On the road again..." or should I say in the air again. I hadn't been looking forward to another flight to Europe but as we can't get there any other way, I just have to put up with it. And to think that I have planned to do it again next year!!!! The first leg to Singapore was fine. Only 8 hours crammed into a little space. It was the next leg that I was not looking forward to. 14 hours!! And let me tell you, it was absolute 'Sh.t"!! My entertainment system would not work. They tried a couple of times to get it to go but to no avail. "Oh well" I thought, I can always read. So I got out my little headlight that I use for reading and started on a book. 5 minutes into the book, I get a tap on the shoulder and the hostess is telling me that the lady 2 seats over is complaining that my light is too bright and that she can't sleep and could I please turn it off. She had a 1 year old little girl with her who was sound asleep so I did the right thing and turned it off. I couldn't use the plane's reading light that was allocated to my seat as it operates in conjunction with the entertainment system and it was not working so nor was my light. So while everyone else on the plane slept, I just had to sit for hours staring into the dark(I don't sleep at all on the flight). A couple of hours later, the baby woke up and I got out of my seat and went and asked her if I could turn my light on again. She said "NO". About 3 hours before touch-down, Ray and I swapped places (this meant I was sitting across the isle from her) and I turned on the plane's reading light. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BRIGHT IT WAS!!! The next minute she is leaning over the isle and suggesting that it would be better if I used my own headlight afterall. Bitch that I am, I ignored her. About a half hour before we landed, one of the male hosties came and apologised for my overall situation and gave me a voucher for 75 Singapore Dollars to use from the duty free shop. Not sure how it happened but Ray ended up with some scotch(he was oblivious to the whole thing as he was snoring his head off).
We finally arrived in Munich and caught the hotel shuttle to our overnight accommodation. Spent the day around the suburb of Halbergmoos which is near the Munich airport. Next morning, we caught the shuttle back to the airport and picked up the hire car, a small Opel diesel that uses about 5 litres per 100km, and headed to our first apartment at Mayrhofen.
Mayrhofen is situated in the most beautiful setting, half-way up a narrow valley surrounded by immense mountains. Our apartment was one building back from the main street and could not have been more convenient. And it was lovely as was our hostess Lisi Thanner. Here are some piccies....
Our apartment is at the top left

Our hostess is building a new 7 apartment block next door. We think this must be the foreman. He watched over the workers from the top floor of the barn next door the whole time we were there. Lazy Bugger!!
Tomorrow it is off for our first hike. It is one that I didn't get to do last year and we will be catching the free bus to get up a side valley to Schlegeis Reservoir. We will see how we go.
Mum you should really grab your self a packet of antihistamines and down 3 or 4. Helped me get to sleep on the way back from LA
