After a quiet few days, still trying to shake this cold, time for a bit more exercise. There is only so much shopping and sight-seeing I can do before I am bored. So we headed back to Kufstein and the cable car to Brentenjoch. But once over The Gamskogel once again, we headed in another direction to walk all the way down via the difficult and steep Bettlersteig Trail. I had read an article about the Trail and it was enough to challenge me to give it a try. Great hike of about 19km that took us about 7 hours.

Today we drove to Kufstein, 5km from our apartment, to catch a chair lift up to Brentenjoch for a hike over the Gamskogel mountain. An easy hike of around 7km that took us about 3.5 hours.

We decided today to try a small and not so strenuous walk along a narrow valley to Greisner Alm. It was an easy trail with only a 266m height difference over 10km. It took us 2.5 hours and we might have gone further but the rain chased us back to the car.

I left home with a cold and I just can't shake it. Not feeling great so I have decided to lay low for a while and see how it goes. We are at our apartment at Ebbs for 2 weeks so we might just do a few smaller hikes and do some sight-seeing.
This is the farm house where we have our apartment. We have the entire top floor. Very nice and very big. It is just outside the village of Ebbs, within walking distance.
The building to the left is the barn that houses the owner's dairy cattle. All the dairy farms here have huge barns. The cattle are brought in from the pastures each night, they are then milked and fed and spend the night indoors.

Our neighbouring castle that we can also see from our balcony. The paddocks in between are for the famous Haflinger Horse stud where we are able to watch all the daily activities with the horses. Quite interesting really.
We came across this beauty on a creek that runs into the river Inn.

Last year there were so many hikes that I didn't get a chance to do, and the hike today is one such hike. I was reluctant to do it last year because of the difficulties in organising it. The walk starts in one town and finishes in another 18km away. How do we get back? Is there a bus? etc... When I was investigating staying in Kaprun, I found that this hike was on their programme of free guided hikes, so I promptly registered us for the hike. It is called the Pinzgauer Spaziergang, starting from the top station of the Schmittenhohe chair lift and finishing at the Schattberg chairlift about 6 hours later.
A small wooden barn, many of which are scattered around the hiking trails, specifically for hikers for lunch, shade and shelter from any sudden storms.

Near the end of a long and tiring days hike. But the group we were with was just great that it didn't seem like 6 hours. A shared taxi ride home with some of the group and the guide and a well-earned rest day for tomorrow I think.

In the photo above, the Kitzsteinhorn peak can be seen just to the right of centre as the highest mountain. The third mountain from the left of the Kitzsteinhorn, seen in the background, is Austria's highest mountain at 3798m, the Grossglockner.

Today it was back to the Mooserboden Reservoir that we visited last year. And just as spectacular the second time around.The trip to get to the dam is an adventure in itself and it makes for a very exciting day out. Last year we had intended to do a hike around the reservoir but got side-tracked with the visitor centre and the reservoir itself. This year we walked up the eastern side to a vantage point about 400m above the reservoir. A beautiful spot to just sit and absorb the surrounding mountains. Love it!! One of my all time favourite places.
